Project Reference MARTa

From December 2010 to February 2011 the MARTa Museum Herford collected the ornamental impressions of five contemporary artists: Martin Assig, Gabriele Basch, Mariella Mosler, Christine Streuli and Heike Weber. This happened within the framework of the exhibition “We are Orient - Contemporary Arabesques”.
With her space installation “Multiverse” Heike Weber covered floor and walls in one of the exhibition rooms with a headstrong line netting of red carpeting. For this she used 260 sqm of a velours carpet (Modena) which was completely sponsored by Vorwerk.
In company with her assistant she converted the carpet into a silhouette. Rubber rings that she scanned in and arranged to an “all-over-structure” for the room on the computer were the initial point for this silhouette. A large-area cutout of red carpeting blended well with the organically curved room by Frank Gehry.
The “de-limitation of the room” – that was the subject of Heike Weber.
